It is traditional for a 5th anniversary gift to be wood. This is the 5th anniversary of the Sophie’s Legacy Challenge. It has to be something special.

Bude was a place that Sophie adored and often visited when she felt the need to appreciate life. It is the raw and wild beauty of the wooded coast and sea. Sophie particularly enjoyed the winter months in Bude: the wind and spray from the raging waves making her feel alive and rooted to nature. It is only appropriate that the 5th Anniversary Challenge be held in such a meaningful place.

On May 18th Crooklets beach car park will be the central point for Bude Sweat & Tears. 12 teams of 5 will start the challenge by running down the beach at low tide. Ahead of them are 54 gruelling kilometres over beach, cliff and trail.

The event is split into 5 sections, 3 running and 2 cycling, each section starting and finishing at Crooklets. Although each section is not too long, the event is characterised by some evil ascents so that completion of the full 5 sections will mean over 1Km of vertical climb!

Bude Sweat & Tears is the most exciting Sophie’s Legacy event so far. Magnificent and meaningful venue, stunning and challenging routes and with 60 athletes the largest event to date.

Let us not forget that the reason for organising and taking part in Bude Sweat & Tears is to continue the fantastic fund raising effort for Prospect Hospice & Macmillan; the two charities that Sophie wanted supported. In the last 4 years £200,000 has been raised and this has had a profound effect on providing end of life care. The gift of a dignified death.

Please continue your support by recognising the extraordinary efforts of the athletes taking on the Bude Sweat & Tears challenge by donating using the buttons to the right.

Thank you.
