Hel Risers – Concentrate on what really matters!

9 May 2010

Firstly, I would like to thank Rob for his ‘kind’ words in trying to stir! He should know that mind games will not work now, nor will they in the race. I do believe that Rob needs a little work on his motivational skills though.

Having said the above I would however just like to point out that despite the late filing of this report – Hel Risers have been concentrating on what really matters……fund raising!!

As a team we are well towards our team target and from reading some of the reports and looking at the donation sites we are probably out in front and not trailing behind like Rob suggests!!!

From a training and team perspective, unfortunately, we have not managed to all meet up and it looks unlikely that we will until we arrive the evening before the event. However, I believe that some of the other team members have come together for a photo shoot for a local paper.

I understand that the team members have been training as hard as they can…well, as hard as work commitments and family life allow. Max has advised that he has been effectively running a marathon a week – and I am sure the experience from his Marine training will come in handy during the event…in fact we believe that Max (despite his broken toes) is so fit he has agreed to carry us all up the hill!!

Helen and Patrick has also been involved in some espionage – they have been checking out the competition and secretly recorded the paddling capabilities of the Famous Five at the Cotswold Water Park – the footage has to be seen to be believed!!– there was a lot of zig-zagging, non intentional over steering and by all accounts a lot of laughter. I believe that the Famous Five, Helen and Patrick have now improved their techniques and we a now awaiting a detailed report on the best way of moving forward – literally.

We are all really looking forward to the event now and with 40 people all coming together to undertake this challenge in honour of Sophie is just inspiring. I must admit that each member of Hel Risers have various worries regarding the different aspects of the Mountain Triathlon but I believe we will pull together and surprise a few teams be it with our athletic prowess or our fund raising capabilities…. See you all in a few weeks time!!
