40 Athletes Ready To Go

5 January 2010

All the teams are complete and it seems that training is now starting in earnest for most of the competitors.

The holiday period has brought the athletes new training gear and in some cases shiny new bikes to get them in peak condition for the May event. There is relative confidence in the training regimen necessary for the ascent of Helvelyn – long runs combined with plenty of hill work. More of the team are concerned about how to approach the cycle training particularly in this wintery climate but the real question is how to prepare for the canoe section.

12Kms in a canoe will not only test core strength and stamina of the upper body but technique will also be vital. As two canoes will be lashed together the paddling will be a real test of team work and co-ordination. Very few if any of the teams will have the chance to train specifically for this element of the challenge so it could prove to be a critical aspect on the day.

The teams lining up for the challenge have different aspirations for the mountain triathlon with 5 in particular stating their intent to be competitive. SOBER are looking for a top 3 finish, FIA & FAMOUS FIVE are in it to win it, SCOUTING FOR GIRLS have a point to prove but the favourites on paper look to be the unassuming but undoubtedly classy 007 HEAVEN. Who are you backing?
